Faculty in the News: Dr. Kathleen Cashin Named as NYC Schools Chancellor Contender

As Schools Chancellor Dennis Wolcott (GSS ’80) prepares to depart the NYC Department of Education, mayoral hopefuls are already lining up their top choices for his replacement, including Dr. Kathleen M. Cashin, Clinical Professor in the division of Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy at GSE, and former school support network leader, who was appointed to the Brooklyn position on the New York State Board of Regents in 2011.

Wolcott warned in an interview with DNAinfo New York that his successor will be in a “unique” situation after he leaves on December 31, jumping in mid-year to take over “a lot of new things that [are] in process right now, like our teacher evaluation, the total ramping up of the new Common Core, and making sure we continue in our special ed reform.”
