Alumni News: Rashid Ferrod Davis (’03)

A November 18th post on the White House Blog, titled President Obama Supports High School Redesign to Ensure Educational Excellence, mentions the president’s recent visit to P-TECH and discusses Obama’s High School Redesign initiative in light of its ability to help schools like P-TECH grant African American students with opportunities for higher education and preparation for post-secondary education and careers. 

“As President Obama said during his visit, schools like P-TECH are the ‘ticket to the middle class.’ These schools will help ensure every student—regardless of background—has an enriching educational experience that gives them the knowledge necessary for success in today’s global economy and the skills to better themselves and their communities.”

Rashid Ferrod Davis (GSE ’03) is the founding principal of Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-Tech), which is a “turnaround” institution for grades 9 through 14 focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with partners including the New York City Department of Education, the New York City College of Technology, The City University of New York’s Early College Initiative, and IBM.
