Alumni News: Brian D. Monahan (’82) Appointed Interim Superintendent of Garrison Union Free School District

The Garrison Union Free School District has appointed Brian D. Monahan, Ph.D. (’82) as Interim Superintendent of Schools, effective January 21, 2014.  Dr.  Monahan brings to Garrison 40 years of experience as an educator at the K-12 and university levels. He spent 14 years in the North Rockland Central School District, retiring as Superintendent in August 2009. Following his retirement, he spent three years at Pace University, where he was a member of the faculty and the coordinator of the University’s graduate programs in Educational Technology and Educational Leadership. Most recently, he was Interim Superintendent of the Hendrick Hudson School District during the 2012 -13 school year.  He received his doctorate in Language, Literacy and Learning from GSE in 1982.

“We are very fortunate to have as our Interim Superintendent an educator of Dr. Monahan’s diverse and extensive experience as a teacher, administrator, expert in educational technologies and teacher-of-teachers at the university level,” said Board president Raymond O’Rourke, “We look forward to working with him through this important transition period.”
